voxi
Name
voxi — Dictate into Linux/Wayland applications using local speech recognition.
Synopsis
tool · available · voice · linux · wayland · local-llm
Why
Voxi turns speech into text in the focused desktop application, keeping transcription on your machine after the model download. It is useful for writing prompts and prose without switching away from your work.
Key ideas
- Stream utterances with eager dictation and toggle recording from a shortcut.
- Add transcript replacement rules and inspect captured chunks, latency, and resource usage.
- The optional physical modifier daemon gates typing while modifier keys are held; installing it requires sudo.
Installation
Linux/Wayland, Go 1.26.5+, audio capture via parec or arecord, wl-clipboard, and user services. Put the Go bin directory on PATH. voxi install fetches user-level dependencies; model weights require an initial download. Optional voxi install --modifierd uses sudo.
git clone https://codeberg.org/ubunatic/voxi.git go -C voxi install ./cmd/voxi voxi install
